Project Overview

Detached Period Property in Kent

Nova Construction was commissioned to design and build a full single storey rear extension at a period-style property in New Barn, Longfield. We took on a complete design and build package, managing everything from initial plans and structural calculations through to the build and final landscaping, including all planning applications to the relevant local authorities in Gravesham.

The Brief

The homeowners were looking to make better use of their rear ground floor space, transforming it into an open-plan kitchen and living area that would bring more light into the home and give the family a generous space to enjoy together.
Working on a period property demands a level of care that goes beyond simply building an extension. It needs to feel like it was always part of the original house. We sourced materials to closely match the existing property, using white mortar brickwork to replicate the original finish and continuing the Tudor aesthetic throughout the design and build.

Our Approach

Key features of the build include:
White mortar brickwork
Internal feature stock brick wall with decorative clay rose details
Bespoke solid oak timber work throughout, including structural beams, roof supports and a striking exposed vaulted truss ceiling
Custom aluminium-framed windows crafted to complement the oak
Three-panel bi-folding doors

The Finishing Touches

On completion of the main build, Nova Construction transformed the surrounding garden space with large-format porcelain paving, a contrasting brick border, recessed feature lighting, and brickwork steps carefully matched to the existing house, which expertly tied the whole project together.

The Result

A beautifully planned and constructed extension that respects the character of a period home whilst delivering a modern, open-plan living space the whole family can enjoy for years to come.
